Q. What is Tofu?
A. Tofu is made by coagulating soy milk, and then pressing the resulting curds into blocks. There are many different varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu has very little flavor or smell on its own. As such, tofu can be prepared either in savory or sweet dishes, acting as a canvas for presenting the flavors of the other ingredients used. Tofu is low in calories, contains beneficial amounts of iron (especially important for women of child-bearing age) and has no saturated fat or cholesterol. Please visit our Tofu Products page to find out more!
Q. What are sprouts?
A. A sprout is produced when a seed starts growing into a vegetable. There are many vegetables that produce sprouts, in addition to some grains such as buckwheat, and from beans. The taste and texture of sprouts vary. Some are spicy (such as radish and onion sprouts), some are hardy and are often used in oriental food (mung bean); others are more delicate (alfalfa) and are used in salads and sandwiches to add texture and moistness. Sprouts, such as alfalfa, radish, broccoli, clover and soybean have long been touted as “health food”, because they contain concentrated amounts of phytochemicals (plant compounds) that can protect us against disease. Please visit our Sprout Products page to find out more!
